Reflecting on the past year can be a transformative experience in our fast-paced lives. With the Spotify app, you can get a personalized end-of-year summary that showcases your most listened-to music genres and favorite songs. It's a great way to celebrate your unique music taste and all the memories that come with it. Similar to a personalized music review, reflection on your past year serves as a mental tune-up, highlighting achievements and challenges that may have gone unnoticed during our daily routine.
I have found this practice valuable by trying different methods, such as Michael Hyatt's Best Year Ever course and John Maxwell's Your Year in Review. In December 2022, I realized the exceptional nature of what initially seemed like an average year, thanks to my reflective journey.
A milestone birthday, a book publication, a pivotal life decision, and achieving long-standing financial goals painted a different picture when viewed collectively. This underscores the importance of setting aside a focused time for this endeavor - at least half a day, ideally a full day - and finding a location accessible from distractions.
For many, physical distance from the familiar aids focus. Going analog with a pen and notebook allows a deeper connection with thoughts before transferring them digitally. Planning the day strategically to avoid the chaos of holiday stress during Christmas and New Year's Eve is equally vital.

Consider asking yourself the following questions during your reflective journey:
What was your most significant accomplishment in the past year?
Which event left the most memorable impression on you?
What decision had the most significant impact on your life?
What proved to be the most formidable challenge you faced?
What vital lessons did the year teach you?
What priorities do you plan to focus on in the coming year?
For individuals of faith, a more specific inquiry might be, "What did God reveal to me this year?" You can also meditate and select a guiding word or verse for the upcoming year.
This reflective day is not for planning the new year's priorities but to fuel that time. However, setting your priorities for the new year will require more time, processes, and questions.
The reflecting day has become second nature for those doing this for years. But if you're starting this year, don't be discouraged. With time, it will become more helpful towards your future and help you appreciate the past more.
Open your agenda and set aside a day on your schedule to reflect on your year. Take the time to reflect on your year and embrace purposeful living.
Are you ready to experience the transformative power of self-reflection?
Thank you Ruth. I appreciate it and hope it will be beneficial for you.
Beautifully written! I love a good reflecting day & I will definitely add your questions to my list.
